Patch 6.2.3 has dropped, and boy are there lots of things to do in this patch! First, there is a new Timewalking dungeon event in which you can earn Timewarped badges to then spend on new toys and other items, not to mention, that any Timewalking boss might drop a new mount, the Reins of the Infinite Timereaver, which looks really, really cool. For right now, Timewalking dungeons are available for level 86 and higher and take you back to Cataclysm dungeons.

Also, be sure to log in by November 30th to claim your treasures for WoW’s 11th anniversary. Items include an inflatable Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, Exquisite costume set of Edwin VanCleef, a gnoll and murloc celebration wand, and a celebration package , which gives you an 11% reputation and experience gain for one hour.

There is also a new quest chain that can reward you with the new Reins of the Grove Warden Mount. However, you need to kill Archimonde in this patch to get the Remnant of Chaos that needs to be turned in to claim your new mount.

Cross-realm Mythic raiding is now open as well, and bosses can reward an heirloom trinket that will scale up to level 110 in Legion.

Lastly, Valor is back! You can earn Valor to upgrade Hellfire Citadel, Tanaan Jungle, Crafted and Draenor dungeon items. Items can be upgraded twice, costing 250 valor per 5 ilevel increase.

MY LEVEL OF OCD HAS QUADRUPLED!

MY LEVEL OF OCD HAS QUADRUPLED!

You can download the audio segment here, or stream it below!

Hey everybody, it’s Sihx, back with another load of Epic Diapers. Alright, so we all have a problem. We can’t quit it. It consumes almost every hour of every day. But, the first step to a clear concious is admitting the addiction. We obsess over garrison missions. We need to find out if that mission with a 76% chance to get a level 630 weapon was successful, or how many crates of salvage are back, or if that blue level 100 follower turned purple yet.

Well, there are tools out there to feed your addiction, feed that burning desire to send more followers out, yet still have enough resources to upgrade your salvage yard to level 3. They are addons. The first is “Garrison Mission Manager,” and these programming devils have made assigning missions so much easier. Each mission also has three choices of teams that you can send on their happy way to balance out your follower talents and make sure you have as many successful missions go out as you can.

The next soulless addon is called “Master Plan.” With this tool of you can sort missions by chance of success, level, or rewards. The garrison missions window is also split into separate available or active tabs so you can see which teams are out in Draenor trying to make the boss (that’s you) happy.

So, even though these addons make your garrison mission managing more efficient and hypothetically save you time, it won’t because you’ll be doing so many more missions that your level of OCD will increase exponentially.

You’re welcome!

Epic Diapers #55 – Late Expansion Rut

…aren’t you feelin’ it?

If you’re like me, you’re burnt out on this expansion, and this is coming from the guy that hasn’t even played in a couple of months. Yes, I’m busy as I’ve ever been with family and work, but if it were fresh and new, I’d probably be finding excuses to play at night like when I used to raid.

However, if you’re looking for new challenges, and a way to regularly mix it up, don’t forget the in-game world event calendar! For example, this weekend is the Alterac Valley Call to Arms, while the first weekend of August brings us Warsong Gulch AND the week-long Darkmoone Faire. Also, don’t forget the Stranglethorn fishing Extravaganza every Monday.

Aside from the calendar of events, mix up your gameplay: go for some transmog gear, level alts, or wrack up those achievements. And, if you DO want a fresh look at the game, and you have beta access, give your toon a spin on Draenor. You don’t need to level far to maybe inspire you to prepare your characters for their eventual arrival back in time…er, in a different timeline, on a different planet.

You can find me @epicdiapers and epicdiapers.com. Also, Willie Dills, Veronica Belmont and I will be covering the San Francisco Giants game this Saturday, July 26 as they play the archrival LA Dodgers, so be sure to check out our twitters.

Hey y’all, back with another segment of Epic Diapers, in my new recording studio! I can’t wait to decorate and produce more content, including more podcasts and youtube videos. Keep in touch for those projects.

So, with the doldrums of the end of mists of pandaria, many of you probably aren’t playing much world of warcraft. Well, I’m one of those, especially since we just moved and my current assignment is to defeat the boss that is the council of moving boxes. Of course, my wife is the general, and I answer to her. Although I still have a goal of getting all 11 classes to level 90 before Warlords of Draneor drops, I need to pick it up. Whatever your goal is, try and stick with it, whether it be playing with your new boosted 90, gathering legendaries or transmog gear, or perhaps, you want to be that guy who gets all of the achievement points that are possible. I’d rather empty boxes than get those points, but who am I to say? Do what you want, be yourself, and if that includes playing Hearthston, Heroes of the Storm, or hey, I don’t know, spend time with your family and friends, do what you gotta do. I won’t call you a noob.

You can follow me @epicdiapers and check out my blog at EpicDiapers.com. you can also listen to me and Willie Dills Gregory talk San Francisco Giants baseball at TortureCast.com and for you parents out there, check out the podcast I do with my wife, and she’s the talker, at kidsarehard.com.

Episode #47: Mission: 11 Level 90s When Warlords Drops

16 Jan

If I’m highly inebriated, I MIGHT boost a gnome warlock to 90

Click below for the audio segment:

You know those behemoth projects at home or work that seem insurmountable? The ones that seem likely to be completed after a man walks on Mars, or after Miley Cyrus stops begging for attention? Well, they say (project management professionals? I dunno) the best way to accomplish said goal is to break it down into it’s smallest parts and work on them one at a time with shorter individual time goals.

One goal that I’ve always had out on the horizon is to have all 11 classes at max level, and considering that I’ve been on a long hiatus from raiding, now might be the perfect time. Now, before you scoff at me, I already have 4 level 90s, and the other 7 are at level 81 or higher. To bend the goal a bit in my direction, I’m restating the goal as “11 level 90s when Warlords drops.” In this way, I can park a level 81 and boost him to 90 after the expansion launches, shaving 9 levels off my goal.

To break it down into its smallest parts, I need 34 levels (I currently have levels: 87, 86, 85, 85, 83, 81) to attain. Considering that every expansion has launched between September 25 (MoP) and January 16 (BC), I predict that WoD will not be released prior to late September. More likely, I think it will launch in the fall to winter time. Consider this: the time between beta and release has increased with every expansion:

  • Burning Crusade: Beta started 10/13/06 and launched 1/16/07 (3 months and 3 days)
  • Wrath of the Lich King: Beta started 7/17/08 and launched 11/13/08 (3 months and 26 days)
  • Cataclysm: Beta started 6/30/10 and launched 12/7/10 (5 months and 7 days)
  • Mists of Pandaria: Beta started 3/21/12 and launched 9/25/12 (6 months and 4 days)

This is not to say that it’s a guarantee that Warlords will have an even longer gap, but it’s probably safe to say that it won’t be much shorter than MoP, so 6 months at the earliest. Even if the beta dropped this week, it’d be late July before the expansion launches. Obviously that’s not the case, as we’re probably 2-3 months from beta, meaning launch won’t happen until September or October at the earliest.

So, back to my math. If I need to gain 34 levels across 6 toons, I can set a modest goal of one level per week. At that rate, I would finish by the first week of September. However, if my leveling rate is higher than expected, or the expansion is delayed into November, then I can throw on the extra 9 levels and finish all 7 toons by early November and save my level 90 boost for perhaps, an Alliance gnome warlock?

Ick, never mind. I’ll save the boost for my daughter, I suppose.

I am tracking my progress online, and you can view it here:

Episode 46: Leveling Your “Alts”

8 Jan

My kids haven’t quite approached this level yet

Click below for the audio segment:

My daughter is now 8 years old, and although she’s been exposed a little to World of Warcraft, I’m now allowing her to dive in deep. She has a level 8 pandaren hunter, but wanted to start a blood elf mage to “mix it up.” Now, Earthen Ring is full of my characters, so I put her on another server, but as she was picking her blood elf hair color and earrings, it struck me that Blizzard now allows cross-realm mail for account-bound items! We shrieked in joy when I told her that I could give her very powerful gear that she wouldn’t need to replace until level 80 or 85! I then sent her all of the cloth heirloom items, two trinkets, and a staff. Even as a true noob, she was one-shotting trees, undead, and lion cubs near Falconwing Square. She also has a 55% boost to her leveling experience. So, if YOU have a kid’s alt or an alt of your own on another realm, don’t forget to send across those heirlooms, but sorry, you can’t send gold.

Hey, my wife and I have been hosting a parenting podcast, called Kids are Hard, for about 3 years, and after a haitus for the last few months, we’re back with a new episode and will have new ones every 2 weeks. So, if you’re a parent, or you want good birth control if you’re not, head on over to kidsarehard.wordpress.com to find our podcasts and shownotes, and follow us on twitter and facebook @kidsarehard.

Episode 45: Cheap-Ass Fast Leveling

8 Dec

Being cheap ain’t always stupid

Click below for the audio segment:

Epic Diapers #45 – Cheap-Ass-Fast Leveling

Blizzard has a pretty sexy sale going on right now, and if you’ve ever thought about getting alts up to 80 or 85 quickly and cheaply, or just fooling around with dual-boxing, now’s the time to give it a try. The Battle Chest is only $4.99. This gives you every expansion through Cataclysm, and you get 30 days of free game time, which is a $15 value in itself!

After laying down a measly 5 bucks, send your second account a recruit a friend invitation through the in-game menu.  I’d suggest dual boxing with the same class for simplicity, but that’s up to you. Next, group up your new level ones and start questing up to level 80 with your triple experience, and as an FYI, heirloom experience boosts stack as well. This is easily accomplished in less than 20 hours of gameplay, and if you do that within your free month of gametime, try as many pairs as possible before your 30 days expire. Then you can transfer your level 80 over to your main account if you don’t want to keep 2 accounts acitve, or you can let the account go dormant and wait for a transfer service sale, as it is a steep $25 normally. But before you do that, be sure you grant levels from your new account to low-level toons on your old account.

Now, while it’s true that the new expansion will give you one free boost to 90, it’s unclear if you’ll be able to purchase additional boosts, or if Blizzard will limit boosted level 90 transfers for players who buy multiple copies of the expansion. Until then, have fun dual boxing alts. Of course, it is the holiday season, so you could always buy this for your significant other so that now the both of you can fight over who gets to put the kids to bed on raid night!
