It’s been a while since I’ve had a segment, but hey, kids, research expeditions and other events have kept me away from the game for a bit. However, I’m back in and committed to getting all 11 classes to level 100. How, do you ask? With heirlooms, of course! You can upgrade all heirlooms to level 100 now, and if you plan out carefully, you can maximize your leveling efficiency. First of all, cloth heirlooms not only work on locks, mages and priests, but I also use them on my boomkin and elemental shaman. That’s 5 classes! It’ll cost you 2,000 gold for each of the 5 armor upgrades, not including the pirate’s ring, but that’s 10,000 gold to get you a 45% boost to experience gain on 5 toons from 90-100. You can also spend another 5k on the heirloom staff, but that’s up to you. I personally did it so as to not have to worry about a weapon upgrade as I leveled. Of course, if you can purchase or make a 630 weapon, go ahead and do so.

At level 91, you can also purchase a 20% leveling buff potion, making your total experience gain around 65%! With the pirate ring, it’s 70%! If you craft a few 630 pieces, you’ll be a one toon wrecking crew, sailing your way to 100. The question is, what’s worth more to you? Virtual gold or your time? I’d say time, especially since you can use some of your saved time to make back some of the coin you spent on the heirlooms in the first place.

Now I’m off to get my lock, mage and priest to 100 in style!

Epic Diapers #61: “Filthy Casual Followers”

I am a filthy casual player, yet I have 23 followers over ilevel 645, and the other two are at 630, and all 25 are epic. Yet, I continually hear from players that are frustrated about their low chances at higher level missions such as the Highmaul raid for ilevel 655 gear because of few followers at level 645 and the rest are barely off the mat from 600.

Look, I log in only once or twice a day to do missions management, but aside from the addons of Garrison Mission Manager and Master Plan as a great aid, I am obtaining virtually all of my follower enhancements from big crates of salvage and the War Mill. If follower levels are important to you, you need to put in a salvage yard and war mill and upgrade them to level 3. For every level 100 mission you complete, you get a big crate of salvage, and the war mill processes garrison resources for metal scraps and follower enhancement items. In patch 6.1, you will also be able to access a daily quest to trade in your iron horde scraps, or the alliance equivalent, for follower equipment. I do raid Highmaul with my raid team, yet I have some great gear from missions that I can easily complete due to my army of high level epic followers.

Epic Diapers #60: “Cold Sweet Gold”

Hey you sexy cats out there, have you mined enough ore to built a fleet of sweet impalas, have you picked enough of those organic herbs from your GMO-free garden? Are you looking for something different to do. Well, you could always make…

MONEY MONEY MONEY MOOOOO–NEY!

That’s right peeps. I’m talking cold sweet gold baby. You could make it by flipping junk on the auction house or finishing all those quests that other NPCs are telling you to do, or maybe even by shaking that thing on top of the mailbox, but I’m talking quick gold with some satisfaction, if you know what I’m throwin’ down.

I’m talking about wiping up those old raids, baby. That’s right, I flew my dew-glistening body over to the Bastion of Twilight and farmed that first room over and over and over again until I couldn’t take it anymore, but 10 times in an hour ain’t nothing to shake a stick at..

And you know how much I made? 2,000 gold in 15 minutes. That’s 8k per hour, and you could even make more, considering your luck. Besides the cash and trash, you can take all of that embersilk and make some sweet high-thread count silk sheets for other endeavors, or make bags that sell like hotcakes at around 400 gold a pop. That, with  some of the transmog epic gear and you’re well on your way to making enough of that coin to buy whatever you want.

=========================================

My apologies for making this horrible segment

=========================================

Reality is that I did make a lot of gold farming BoT, and it provided a quick boost in cash to my reserves. Of course, after I farmed this, an ilevel 665 trinket dropped from a salvage crate that I sold for 40,000 gold, so that kind of outstripped gold/hour of any farming I’ve done!

Rare BOA Loot for Your Epic Alts

Your alts are sexy, and you know it. Treat them well.

By now you probably know that there are rare creatures and containers on Pandaria that carry bind on account loot, but did you know how many of these pinatas exist there are and truly how much loot you can gather up for your army of alts? I looked it up, and there are a whopping 28 known creatures and containers, each which can carry a possible list of more than 20 BOA items.

Finding these treasures also counts towards several achievements, if you care. The BoA items are primarily weapons, trinkets and medallions. Some are item level 404, good to use at level 85, but several are ilevel 450 and useable at level 86. These high level weapons will be good to tear through mobs until your alt reaches 90, making the leveling process faster and more enjoyable. My 86 rogue is rocking a 450 and 404 dagger and is always topping the dungeon damage meters.

You will also find vanity items and vendor trash, but all of them add up to be thousands of gold, so even if you don’t always find a rare BoA, it’s cash money. I highly suggest the mods TomTom and Lost Treasures. You MUST use these with your flying 90 to zip around Pandaria, loot a bunch of rare BoAs and then bestow these wonderful gifts upon your alts and write yourself a thank you card.

Episode 46: Leveling Your “Alts”

8 Jan

My kids haven’t quite approached this level yet

Click below for the audio segment:

My daughter is now 8 years old, and although she’s been exposed a little to World of Warcraft, I’m now allowing her to dive in deep. She has a level 8 pandaren hunter, but wanted to start a blood elf mage to “mix it up.” Now, Earthen Ring is full of my characters, so I put her on another server, but as she was picking her blood elf hair color and earrings, it struck me that Blizzard now allows cross-realm mail for account-bound items! We shrieked in joy when I told her that I could give her very powerful gear that she wouldn’t need to replace until level 80 or 85! I then sent her all of the cloth heirloom items, two trinkets, and a staff. Even as a true noob, she was one-shotting trees, undead, and lion cubs near Falconwing Square. She also has a 55% boost to her leveling experience. So, if YOU have a kid’s alt or an alt of your own on another realm, don’t forget to send across those heirlooms, but sorry, you can’t send gold.

Hey, my wife and I have been hosting a parenting podcast, called Kids are Hard, for about 3 years, and after a haitus for the last few months, we’re back with a new episode and will have new ones every 2 weeks. Episode 45: Cheap-Ass Fast Leveling

8 Dec

Being cheap ain’t always stupid

Click below for the audio segment:

Epic Diapers #45 – Cheap-Ass-Fast Leveling

Blizzard has a pretty sexy sale going on right now, and if you’ve ever thought about getting alts up to 80 or 85 quickly and cheaply, or just fooling around with dual-boxing, now’s the time to give it a try. The Battle Chest is only $4.99. This gives you every expansion through Cataclysm, and you get 30 days of free game time, which is a $15 value in itself!

After laying down a measly 5 bucks, send your second account a recruit a friend invitation through the in-game menu.  I’d suggest dual boxing with the same class for simplicity, but that’s up to you. Next, group up your new level ones and start questing up to level 80 with your triple experience, and as an FYI, heirloom experience boosts stack as well. This is easily accomplished in less than 20 hours of gameplay, and if you do that within your free month of gametime, try as many pairs as possible before your 30 days expire. Then you can transfer your level 80 over to your main account if you don’t want to keep 2 accounts acitve, or you can let the account go dormant and wait for a transfer service sale, as it is a steep $25 normally. But before you do that, be sure you grant levels from your new account to low-level toons on your old account.

Now, while it’s true that the new expansion will give you one free boost to 90, it’s unclear if you’ll be able to purchase additional boosts, or if Blizzard will limit boosted level 90 transfers for players who buy multiple copies of the expansion. Until then, have fun dual boxing alts. Of course, it is the holiday season, so you could always buy this for your significant other so that now the both of you can fight over who gets to put the kids to bed on raid night!

Do What You Want

29 May

Hey all, it’s Sihx, and well, after more than 4 years of raiding with my team, I’m taking the summer off to spend more time with my family instead of my virtual family. It does feel nice to get more time at night with my wife and kids on Wed and Thursdays, but man, I really do miss the raiding scene. However, I’ve refocused my few hours of weekly play time in Azeroth into farming, I mean, literal farming, and of course, leveling alts with the 33% nerf to xp between 85 and 90. If you aren’t raiding or don’t have a weekly committment, I’d suggest you think of things you’d like to do in game, and then make a checklist, in order, of what you can get done in a short window of playing time. Perhaps it’s trying out the new heroic scenarios for ilevel 516 loot. Maybe expanded pet battles, leveling alts, killing 3 bosses in LFR, transmog runs, making a little cash in the auction house, or maybe just getting your sexy blood elf to dance on the mail box all night long. Whatever it is, do what you want, and make sure you’re having fun without taking away from someone else.
