Patch 6.2.3 has dropped, and boy are there lots of things to do in this patch! First, there is a new Timewalking dungeon event in which you can earn Timewarped badges to then spend on new toys and other items, not to mention, that any Timewalking boss might drop a new mount, the Reins of the Infinite Timereaver, which looks really, really cool. For right now, Timewalking dungeons are available for level 86 and higher and take you back to Cataclysm dungeons.

Also, be sure to log in by November 30th to claim your treasures for WoW’s 11th anniversary. Items include an inflatable Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, Exquisite costume set of Edwin VanCleef, a gnoll and murloc celebration wand, and a celebration package , which gives you an 11% reputation and experience gain for one hour.

There is also a new quest chain that can reward you with the new Reins of the Grove Warden Mount. However, you need to kill Archimonde in this patch to get the Remnant of Chaos that needs to be turned in to claim your new mount.

Cross-realm Mythic raiding is now open as well, and bosses can reward an heirloom trinket that will scale up to level 110 in Legion.

Lastly, Valor is back! You can earn Valor to upgrade Hellfire Citadel, Tanaan Jungle, Crafted and Draenor dungeon items. Items can be upgraded twice, costing 250 valor per 5 ilevel increase.

If you’re an altoholic like me, or you plan on leveling several toons to 100, I’ve got a few tips for you that can make your overall leveling process faster, and  a way to manufacture more materials and gear for all of your toons.

If you have several toons at level 90 gathering dust, may I suggest leveling each one of them until they establish their garrison. Typically, this takes only an hour or so to do, but once that garrison is built, resources start accumulating at about 500 every 3 ½ days. Now, you can simply log in every 3 days to collect your resources, and when you’re ready to take that toon to 100, you’ll be swimming in resources which will enable you to send more followers on missions, construct buildings faster, and even buy that 20% experience buff potion from your garrison innkeeper to save hours of leveling.

If you have an extra hour or two to spend with each alt that has established their garrison, may I recommend that you select a crafting profession and complete that initial questline in frostfire ridge to get the level 1 blueprint. Now, you can build your tailoring emporium, forge, or whatever you need mats for. My level 91 warlock has already created enough hexweave cloth for a level 640 chest, and I plan on creating the legs and helm to wear to make his eventual leveling process even faster. My lock also has 4 followers, all at level 100. Often the player experience quests come up, and I’ve gained almost a full level on my lock by just completing those missions with the experience potion buff active.

Epic Diapers #54 – Legendaries, now TWICE as fast!

Which one is the black prince, and which one is me?

Blizzard has a special buff running from June 17 through 30. It’s called, “The Gaze of the Black Prince.” No, he doesn’t have a thing for you, but he will think you’re more awesome for these two weeks! Blizzard is trying to make the grind for the legendary cloak a bit easier for many of us, which it will. I’m not really trying to complain here, but there is a sticking point that I can see many players having. Since this was announced right before it went live, you can’t blame those who have their mains or alts sitting at the “Test of Valor” quest part of the chain. Unfortunately for those stuck there, you need 3,000 valor points to reach the next step in the quest chain. Well, since you can only earn 1,000 valor points a week, unless you have more than 2,000 valor points, you will completely miss this buff. And furthermore, with 6 months left in Mists of Pandaria, why isn’t Blizzard just making this buff permanent? Yes, there are many of you that earned your cloak when you walked uphill both ways in the snow, but for God’s sake, it’s June! Maybe us procrastinators need a little more incentive than a 2 week buff.

Anyway, you can find my blog at EpicDiapers.com and you can follow me @ epicdiapers. I was also a recent guest on This Week in Science with Dr. Kiki, so if you’re interested in deep sea science, please check out their podcast number 468 from June 12. (or watch the YouTube below!)

Rare BOA Loot for Your Epic Alts

6 Mar

Your alts are sexy, and you know it. Treat them well.

By now you probably know that there are rare creatures and containers on Pandaria that carry bind on account loot, but did you know how many of these pinatas exist there are and truly how much loot you can gather up for your army of alts? I looked it up, and there are a whopping 28 known creatures and containers, each which can carry a possible list of more than 20 BOA items.

Finding these treasures also counts towards several achievements, if you care. The BoA items are primarily weapons, trinkets and medallions. Some are item level 404, good to use at level 85, but several are ilevel 450 and useable at level 86. These high level weapons will be good to tear through mobs until your alt reaches 90, making the leveling process faster and more enjoyable. My 86 rogue is rocking a 450 and 404 dagger and is always topping the dungeon damage meters.

You will also find vanity items and vendor trash, but all of them add up to be thousands of gold, so even if you don’t always find a rare BoA, it’s cash money. I highly suggest the mods TomTom and Lost Treasures. You MUST use these with your flying 90 to zip around Pandaria, loot a bunch of rare BoAs and then bestow these wonderful gifts upon your alts and write yourself a thank you card.

Episode #49: Cooling Down Professionally

28 Feb

Success in WoW = success in life. Ok, maybe not.

Click below for the audio segment:

As Mists of Pandaria gets a little long in the tooth, it could be time to focus on small side projects that maybe slipped by the wayside as you were raiding or leveling up. Even though I’m still leveling an army of alts, I’m more focused on my professions and now I make sure that I use every cooldown every day. These cooldowns help me not only make money, but also mounts, vanity items, and high level equipment for my alts. For example, I’m creating Jard’s Peculiar Energy source every day on my Engineer, and I’m only about 10 days away from the Sky Golem mount. I also use my blacksmith to create a balanced trillium ignot so that I can eventually make and either sell or use a 553 ilevel plate armor. My scribe dutifully makes a scroll of wisdom every day, my alchemist formulates living steel for my sky golem mount and belt buckles, and my warlock tailor creates celestial cloth for ilevel 553 armor. I usually buy all my mats on the auction house as time is more valuable to me. Besides, what I make a sell exceeds the cost of the mats, so it’s a win-win.

If professions aren’t your thing, why not try some old-world raids, grab a rare mount or pet, or farm transmog gear for your metro blood elf. Or perhaps, you can simply dance your scantily clad orc on the mailbox for tips. I’M TOO SEXY FOR THIS MAILBOX…..SO SEXY IT HURTS!

Episode 48: Cooldowns are the Bane of my Game

30 Jan

I really hate cooldowns

Click below for the audio segment:

I recently leveled up my engineering to 600 and farmed for about 30 minutes until the Sky Golem pattern dropped along with the recipe needed to create a crucial material for this mount, Jard’s Peculiar Engergy Source. But, this can only be crafted once a day. So, I’ve been dutifully logging into WoW on most days to make one of these along with a living steel, but I can’t actually log in every single day! Some days I just can’t get to my gaming rig, but I always have my iPhone with me. For the love of Zeus, Blizzard, will you please make an app to craft items!! While you’re at it, it’d be great if it let us do almost anything not related to actually fighting in WoW. Be it pet battles, crafting, or the barber shop, just freaking add it. This mount takes 30 days to make, but it’ll be about 60 for me, just because I’m apparently not committed enough to this game to jump through the hoop every day like a good little citizen of Azeroth!!!!!

Ok, I’m not really that upset guys. I hope I didn’t just troll ya.

For you sports fans out there (HAHAHAHA!), Willie Dills and I will be heading up to AT&T park in San francisco on Friday to interview many of the San Francisco Giants players, including Buster Posey, Tim Lincecum, Sergio Romo and many others. Follow us @TortureCast or visit TortureCast.com where will be posting videos of our interviews and ramping up for another exciting season of Giants baseball!

Episode #47: Mission: 11 Level 90s When Warlords Drops

16 Jan

If I’m highly inebriated, I MIGHT boost a gnome warlock to 90

Click below for the audio segment:

You know those behemoth projects at home or work that seem insurmountable? The ones that seem likely to be completed after a man walks on Mars, or after Miley Cyrus stops begging for attention? Well, they say (project management professionals? I dunno) the best way to accomplish said goal is to break it down into it’s smallest parts and work on them one at a time with shorter individual time goals.

One goal that I’ve always had out on the horizon is to have all 11 classes at max level, and considering that I’ve been on a long hiatus from raiding, now might be the perfect time. Now, before you scoff at me, I already have 4 level 90s, and the other 7 are at level 81 or higher. To bend the goal a bit in my direction, I’m restating the goal as “11 level 90s when Warlords drops.” In this way, I can park a level 81 and boost him to 90 after the expansion launches, shaving 9 levels off my goal.

To break it down into its smallest parts, I need 34 levels (I currently have levels: 87, 86, 85, 85, 83, 81) to attain. Considering that every expansion has launched between September 25 (MoP) and January 16 (BC), I predict that WoD will not be released prior to late September. More likely, I think it will launch in the fall to winter time. Consider this: the time between beta and release has increased with every expansion:

  • Burning Crusade: Beta started 10/13/06 and launched 1/16/07 (3 months and 3 days)
  • Wrath of the Lich King: Beta started 7/17/08 and launched 11/13/08 (3 months and 26 days)
  • Cataclysm: Beta started 6/30/10 and launched 12/7/10 (5 months and 7 days)
  • Mists of Pandaria: Beta started 3/21/12 and launched 9/25/12 (6 months and 4 days)

This is not to say that it’s a guarantee that Warlords will have an even longer gap, but it’s probably safe to say that it won’t be much shorter than MoP, so 6 months at the earliest. Even if the beta dropped this week, it’d be late July before the expansion launches. Obviously that’s not the case, as we’re probably 2-3 months from beta, meaning launch won’t happen until September or October at the earliest.

So, back to my math. If I need to gain 34 levels across 6 toons, I can set a modest goal of one level per week. At that rate, I would finish by the first week of September. However, if my leveling rate is higher than expected, or the expansion is delayed into November, then I can throw on the extra 9 levels and finish all 7 toons by early November and save my level 90 boost for perhaps, an Alliance gnome warlock?

Ick, never mind. I’ll save the boost for my daughter, I suppose.

I am tracking my progress online, and you can view it here:
